Kansas based artist Solo4x released a music video for his single ‘Ring Around Tha Rosie’ on November 20, 2023, following the debut of his latest album “Mr. 4x”, which is now available on all streaming platforms as of September 12, 2023.

While the nursery rhyme ‘Ring Around Tha Rosie’ rings familiar to the ear, Solo4x quickly ditched its more commonly known verses for the rappers take on the lyrics, "ring around tha rosie, pockets full of Oz." 

The music video for ‘Ring Around Tha Rosie’ opens up with a FaceTime call between Solo4x and one of his comrades. The comrade explains to Solo4x that an ‘opp’ (or “a member of the opposition”) dissed the artist and his crew, 'The BurgerBoyz', via social media. Though the acting is limited, the scene quickly sets the stage for a classic hip-hop, mob boss type storyline. And Solo4x delivers on all fronts. 

From start to finish, Solo4x showcases leadership as the mob boss of his crew. “I can put you in position, in that column it’s a win!” he proclaimed in the song. When I caught up with Solo4x recently to get a deeper understanding of the lyrics, he clarified this line by saying “if you on this side of things, around me you will be in a position to win.”

Personally, when I think of a mob boss, I imagine someone who not only helps his crew succeed, but also enjoys the luxuries of life, while withstanding the dangers of the underworld with a level of composure. And Solo4x's decision to perform his verses on a golf course brilliantly illustrated that point as he possessed the luxury of time to play golf with his boys, despite the circumstances of an ‘opp’ posing as a threat to the ‘Burger Boyz’. Mr. 4x even got to show off some putting skills along the way.

The incongruences in the lives of a mobster is what adds sensationalism around the ‘Tony Montana and James Saint Patrick-type characters’ that we love. And Solo4x depicts those same compelling traits throughout the video for ‘Ring Around Tha Rosie’ as the story line continues to build.

“Gotta dream like Dr. king, I gots to see it through!” Solo4x rapped in the song. Solo4x told me that “we all have dreams, but mine specifically - I won’t stop till I achieve mine as the late great Dr. King.”  And Solo certainly portrayed this mentality by demonstrating that he is willing to get his hands dirty to achieve his mob boss dreams.

As a bonus, whoever shot and edited this video should also stand to get a lot of credit (great work Chancebum!). The jump cuts and transitions from the golf course to what appears to be the headquarters of whatever illicit scheme may or may not be running from a residence, were done to perfection. The backwood package tearing open, the color switch up in the styrofoam cup, and effects on Solo4x as he moved through the golf course to the house, made the music video come to life without being over the top. 

I personally cannot wait to see what other visuals Solo4x plans to put out this year, but I will anxiously wait until he does.
